wow Looney, your gestures are looking REALLY good. great lines of action and nice observations.
Might be beneficial to take your favorite gesture studies and then use those for your structure breakdown. Get your overlaps, then ink those suckers. That way you're doing full drawings, and that's the final goal right?
Some of the stuff I see in the gestural studies isn't getting translated to some of the other exercises. ALWAYS keep that lose feel to begin, and you're gonna be knockin them outta hte park in no time!
Hey Chris. Thanks for the honest and helpful critique. I always appreciate your constructive criticism. I have been thinking a lot about what you wrote while drawing this week.
Correct me if I'm wrong but what you are suggesting is doing studies of the whole process from gesture to structure to finished and inked cartoons. I think this is a great idea, and it is what I am working towards. right now I am working on illustrating the human figure. For the next two weeks schedules I plan on working from structure studies to inked line drawings of the figure. After getting more experience with the figure I will do the same with cartoons.
Also you were right about needing to loosen up. When concentrating on copying and applying principles I forgot to start loosely and the result was stiff drawings.
